Furniture Question: A Few Rubber Stoppers Damaged The Finish On My Coffee Table, How Can I Repair?

Thanks for taking the time to assist.
I have a high resolution picture of the napkin holder’s destructive ways. The rubber stoppers seem to eat into my finish. The damage is relatively small but. . multiplied about 8 times over and the centerpiece of a nice coffee table is tarnished.
Is there a way I can redo the finish in these small circular areas? Are there better options?

  1. Here is what I would try. If you were a little artistic or knew some I would darken these spots to make them look like they were knots in the wood. Colored pencils or art paint work fine. I noticed the wood was a little distressed and had some knots in it already. You can always try this first before you go to the trouble of trying to have it refinished.

  2. Oh, I have been there. Vinyl and rubber are a “NO- NO” on wood. They will always cause a reaction. I would try to contact a furniture refinisher in your area. Best to use only felt pads. You are not alone. Sorry to not be able to help you in the refinishing process except to sand down, restain and coat. But, I have listed a very good site that may help you out to do some research. Lots of luck. It is a beautiful table.http://www.bobvila.com/HowTo_Library/
